I love having things, books, mugs, hand lotions, lip chap, old textbooks, random sheets of paper, you name it.
I didn’t realize until just recently how much stuff I actually have, well I guess now I can say had!
Trae has been telling me for months that I should clean out my closet and give away the clothes I don’t wear anymore. Then it hit me one day that I should really listen to him because it was so full. There were a lot of clothes that didn’t suit or fit me anymore. It was also so full that I couldn’t get to the back of my closet so I was only wearing the clothes at the front.
After getting rid of a bag of clothes from my closet and donating them, I was addicted to the feeling of decluttering and getting rid of things that I no longer needed.
That’s when I decided to move to the stool we have at the end of our bed that tends to be a “catch all” area. It drives me crazy because it is the first thing I see when I walk into our bedroom. I ended up recycling a whole garbage bin of old notebook, paper, old iPhone boxes. It blew me away at how many useless things I was keeping for no reason.
I then continued my purge by cleaning and decluttering my office, linen closet, bathroom drawers and coat closet.
Since I found it so uplifting for me to declutter my life I wanted to challenge you to just start in one room and decide which space is feeling cluttered. Start by sorting the items into piles, keep, recycle/garbage, giveaway or relocate. Relocating can be so great because maybe that item doesn’t even been belong in your bedroom in the first place.
It is truly an amazing feeling to release and get rid of items that are no longer serving you. I feel a lot more open and spacious, I have this intense feeling that it is opening me to receive the abundance and joy that is meant to be in my life.
I use to be very attached to my things, but I am starting to realize by holding on to the items that no longer have any value to me weren’t allowing space for new ways of abundance to show up in my life.
Here’s to getting rid of 13 iPhone 4 cases that I have had for 5 years and they definitely don’t fit my iPhone 7…haha. #getridofshit.
